In my previous post, I demonstrated how to compose images using the Rule of Thirds. Today, we'll explore how to use light to compose stunning photographs.
When composing an image, you'll often encounter a subject with a range of brightness, from deep shadows to bright highlights. Shadow and light are crucial elements in image composition. Shadows form when an object blocks a light source, while bright areas naturally draw the viewer's eye first. You can leverage this to enhance your compositions.
For instance, when photographing a sunset, the sun is typically the brightest element and serves as a focal point. By using the Rule of Thirds, you can position the sun on a power point, directing your viewers' attention to that part of the scene.
Warning
Be cautious of bright areas near the edge of the frame, as they can lead the viewer's eye out of the photograph. To prevent this, place darker objects at the edges of your image to act as a natural frame, keeping the viewer's focus within the composition.
